Q: What Inspired You To Start Your Current Business?

A: The inspiration to supply garden rooms came many years ago, it was the request of one client who came to me asking for a bespoke structure to house a hot tub and sauna that got me thinking. After numerous changes to the build process, I came up with a simple construction method which we still use to this day at Aoba. Since the first structure was completed, I am pleased to say I have been involved in the construction of many more outdoor buildings from garden offices and spas, through to outdoor kitchens, bars, and even a couple of large retail units.

Being able to offer a versatile space within a garden setting that can be utilised for many different things is something I take great pride in. I feel we don’t just build a structure but an extension of our clients’ home and lifestyle.

Q: How Long Have You Been In Business?

A: I have worked within landscape industry for close to 20 years now and have been designing and building garden rooms for 10 years.

I started out offering agricultural fencing solutions in Yorkshire and from there developed a wide range of skills. Fast forward quite a few years and I’m now at Aoba offering both garden rooms and landscaping/garden makeovers in London and the Home Counties.

Q: Do you design and build or work with garden designers?

A: We have our own in-house design studio which allows us to offer a full bespoke design and build service. However we also work with many designers, building from their designs. We currently have a team of 16 talented workers on site and are able to cater for projects large and small.

Q: Natural Stone, Porcelain or Reclaimed Stone, Which Is Your Favourite And Why?

A: I’d say my favourite stone would have to be natural. The textures and finish have no comparison to porcelain. However, I feel it is really important to utilise what we have within our surroundings and make use of reclaimed materials wherever possible.

When it comes to garden rooms, a favourite cladding of mine is ‘Frake Noir’. This modified timber is a Limba hardwood. The finish and colouring looks fantastic and only improves with age during the weathering process. More importantly, this timber is FSC certified.

Q: How Do You Feel Your Work Transforms Your Customers’ Lives?

A: I feel it transforms their lives immensely, our mission statement at Aoba is ‘Creating a life time of happy memories’ - we believe that some of our happiest times are spent in the garden. Whether it’s BBQing with friends, playing with the kids, relaxing with a book or simply tending to the plants, our gardens are a place of sanctuary and provide us with an opportunity to get away from the hectic pace of life and create memories that last a lifetime.

Furthermore, our garden rooms create a space to escape, work or play. As mentioned previously, we don’t just build a structure but an extension of our clients’ life and home.

Q: What Advice Would You Offer To New Landscapers

A: Enjoy it and all the things landscaping throws at you. Take on every piece of advice from fellow workers and embrace change along with ever developing techniques.

Q: Which trade shows do you like to attend?

A: I really enjoy attending Futurescape, this show gives a great insight into emerging products and trends. The seminars in place are always useful too with a wealth of knowledge being discussed and offered to all.

Q: Which Areas Of the country do you cover?

A: We currently cover the areas of North, South and West London along with the surrounding Counties including areas of Weybridge, Amersham and Marlow.

Q: Are you part of any trade organisations?

A: Yes, we are part of the APL. They have a rigorous inspection process which we successfully pass each year. The inspection covers everything from quality of work through to having the necessary insurances in place and compliance with health and safety law.
