The back yard of this three storey town house in Colchester is tiny. And to make matters worse it's enclosed by high fences and overlooked by neighbouring properties.
The homeowner was keen to make more use of their garden for al-fresco breakfasts and enjoying a glass of something relaxing after a long day at work.
Plants were important - but so was maximising the space. This garden is only 25 square metres!
The biggest challenge with this garden - aside from its diminuative size - was the fact that it receives very little sun in winter but in summer it can become unbearably warm.
Plants are incredibly useful for moderating temperatures and so garden designer Katie Moyes from Tapestry Design Studios incorporated a living wall as a way of getting more plants into the space.
The transformation in this garden is remarkable. Clever use of colour along with space saving planters has brought this tiny courtyard to life. A living wall which doubles as an edible garden adds beauty and functionality to the space and that lighting is second to none.
Top marks all round!
