Secret Garden by Jack Dunckley

This is Jack Dunckley's second garden refurbishment for this client. Their entire garden is approximately one acre and attached to a 1960's house that has been refurbished inside and out.

Previously, Jack has designed and built a Tuscany style garden on the site. For this phase of the garden development, Jack was asked to create a secret garden. The Secret Garden is to be attached to the Tuscany garden but to have a very different look and feel.
The client wanted a quiet area to escape to which is not overlooked by neighbours and feels completely calm and relaxing.

To say that this project had its challenges would be an understatement.

First and foremost, the clients needed the project completed on time because they wanted to hold a garden party.

Then it rained. And rained. And rained. Weeks of bad weather made working very difficult and slowed the project down considerably. At times, the landscapers were working in a sea of mud and the fact that the garden got finished at all was almost a miracle.

As you can see from the pictures, access for machinery and materials was very tight indeed. There was very little room for storage and Jack's project management skills were tested to the limit. Co-ordinating deliveries was crucial!

That beautiful rill you see in the images is the most complex and the largest rill that Jack has built so far --- it took some thinking about, but as you can see, was definitely worth the effort.

This is the biggest and most complex private garden that Jack has designed and built to date. Working with Andy and his team from Greatest Scapes as well as excellent suppliers and artists has produced amazing results.
The reaction from the client meant everything to Jack and Andy. The night before the garden party, the client was given a private walk around the garden and their reaction apparently made all the blood sweat and tears worth it.
The client said that they wanted a secret garden but got so much more.
