In landscaping, there are pergolas and then there are pergolas. This project takes outdoor shading to a whole new level. The bespoke timber structure spans a whopping eighty square metres and successfully reflects the atmosphere of a mediterranean courtyard.

Mediterranean Ambience In The Heart Of Surrey

Tom's clients are blessed with the ownership of a period property with a large wraparound garden. The interior of their home has recently been refurbished and they wanted to raise the standard of the outdoor spaces.

Top of their wish list was to create an outdoor entertaining space with room for fourteen people to eat al fresco. They definitely wanted a holiday vibe to the seating area. Elsewhere in the garden, an open space was required for their dogs to play and their three teenagers to practice football.

Challenge
Managing A Large Project In Adverse Weather Conditions

This large scale project was built through the winter which means that teams were constantly battling rain and freezing temperatures. On the bright side however, the clients were enthusiastic and supportive, access was superb and there was plenty of storage space for materials.

Solution
Sublime Courtyard Built To A High Standard

Tom Howard and his team have brought to life a spectacular, contemporary timber pergola. Which, when combined with limestone paving, beautifully faced walls and a clever layout, instantly makes visitors feel as though they have been transported to a mediterranean country.
Clever illuminations from Hudson lighting and beautiful plants from Creepers Nursery and Evergreen Exterior Services complete the look.

A large lawned area provides space for parties to spread out as well as offering plenty of room for the footballers in the family.

All in all, the entire garden is a triumph. Tom definitely deserves an accolade for the design and execution of that pergola.
