Brief
Large Entertaining Area For A 5 Year Old Property

Graham, Sophie and the team at Burcote Style have an existing relationship with this client as they have been maintaining their garden since 2021. They discussed various design ideas before settling on a final brief.
The clients wanted a larage entertaining area for the family to enjoy with easy access to the patio from their bifold doors. They also wanted a smaller seating area at the top of the garden where they could catch the last rays of the setting sun on summer evenings.
The patio area was to include an area for the hot tub that couldn't be seen from neighbouring properties.
Also on the wish list were some areas for planting (to be completed in spring 2024), a new gate into the garden and a practical but attractive log and bin store on the drive.

Challenge
Clay Soils Vs Winter Weather

This garden was built during November and December 2023 during some of the wettest weeks the UK has seen in a long time. Being on a clay based soil and with existing drainage problems, a lot of effort went into taming the slope, building a Monocouche retaining wall and rectifying the inadequate drainage installed by the housebuilder.

Solution
A Stylish Garden To Enhance Any Lifestyle

Graham, Sophie and the team are justifyably proud of this garden. It's the result of a lot of hard work and some exemplary garden design, carpentry and hard landscaping skills.
We love the warm, relaxing feel created by the layout and by the choice of landscaping materials. Pietra Jura Beige porcelain, Sinai Pearl Beige limestone setts and natural timber are just made for each other.
The discreet threshold drains give no clue as to the amount of effort spent designing and installing a drainage system for the lawn. But as we can see from these photos, which were taken during one of the wettest times of the year, the drainage is clearly working well.
All in all, a very successful project.
