Brief
A courtyard garden for entertaining

This wonderful courtyard garden is part of a 3-acre plot in the South of England. Sitting directly beside a beautiful 18th Century property, the householders wanted to transform it into a family space to entertain and enjoy. The previous garden was overgrown with layers of history from previous occupiers. Richard Ayles and Victoria Chesterfield - the designers working on this project, aimed to complete the work sympathetically so as not to lose the feel and the character of the space.

Challenge
Buried Structures and Engineering Challenges

The first part of the project called for some major groundworks. These excavations revealed long lost underground structures. Interesting but presenting unexpected challenges.

The large brick surrounding walls were in a poor state of repair. These were conserved and strengthened as specified on the structural engineer's drawings.

Solution
An exciting space with a unique ambiance

The age, style, and history of this property deserved an heirloom quality garden encompassing the grace and beauty of a bygone era. Victoria's design offers a nod to the oriental, with bespoke timber screens and generous planting creating a mix of intimate spaces and entertaining areas. A beautiful lighting scheme highlights the garden's focus points and means that the courtyard can be enjoyed all year round and at any time of the night or day.
The quality of the finish and the attention to detail in this project is sublime. Everyone at Arbour Landscape Solutions agrees that this garden will enjoyed by generations to come.

Our Client Said...
Arbour Landscape Solutions assisted us greatly with a tricky sourcing issue to complete this wonderful garden. Copings to match the paving which runs from the outside into the interior was proving very hard to source, Richard and his team found a solution promptly enabling us to complete the project on time as planned
