Front Garden In East Molesey

Project Type: Domestic Front Garden
Designer Christine Wilford and landscaper Pureform Gardens have brought this 1920's house into the 21st century without detracting from its character one little bit.  The tired front garden has been given a makeover to boost kerb appeal and to create beautiful views from the kitchen window.

Brief
Bringing The Front Garden Up To Date

Pure Form Gardens' client had their back garden landscaped some years ago and were ready to bring the front garden up to the same standard. The back garden has clearly defined geometric lines, white rendered walls and a clear focal point. The clients wanted the front garden to be in keeping with this.

They had seen a front garden designed by Christine Wilford of GreenArden Design and very much admired her work. The only specifications from them was that there should be room to park one car, a wonderful view of planting from inside the house and for the garden to compliment their home when seen from the street.

Challenge
Tree Roots Slow Down The Proceedings

Before John and his team started work on this garden it was characterised by crazy paving, a garden wall of questionable construction and a massively overgrown tree.

Once the arboriculturist had removed the tree and ground away the stump, the team were left with massive tree roots to unearth and dispose of before the hard landscaping could begin.

There was a difference in levels between this garden and the neighbouring one - it took a bit of thought to achieve gradients that work. Looking at the garden you'd never imagine that there had ever been a challenge with the levels. That's the mark of a good landscaper!

Solution
A Fine Example Of How Front Gardens Can Be Practical And Beautiful

In the words of John Wood from Pureform Gardens... "Christine Wilford's design is an excellent example of how a relatively small front garden can feel spacious and aundantly planted, whilst allowing comfortable and well proportioned pedestrian and parking access. The hard landcsaping is balanced and easy on the eye. Details in the choice of material both compliment the architecture of the house and provide a harmonious framework for beautiful planting. Three specimen feathered Amelanchier provide a strong vertical emphasis softening the strong geometry of the garden."
